These Selection Criteria have been drawn up by the G.U.E Committee following an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Guernsey Union d’Éscrime, held on Wednesday 4th May 2011.
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS
1. Up to five eligible Guernsey fencers will be selected to fence in the individual weapon events for the 2012 Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships.
2. The first three places for each individual weapon event in the 2012 Commonwealth Junior Championships will be given to the three eligible Guernsey fencers who hold the highest position within the British Junior Fencing rankings as at Monday 19th December 2011.
3. Any places that cannot be allocated on the basis of Criterion 2 – above, and the remaining two places for each weapon event, may be allocated by the Team Manager and the Team Captain for this event.
These selections will be publicised in a written document which sets out the reasons for any selections (including performance in British National, Channel Islands, and Guernsey events, illness and injury, and commitment to training).
This document will be submitted to the Honorary Secretary of the Guernsey Union d’Éscrime on, or before, Wednesday 21st December 2011.
4. Selections for all individual weapon events for the 2012 Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships will be posted up on the G.U.E web site on Thursday 22nd December 2011.
Any fencer will have the right to appeal against the selection decisions of the Team Manager and Team Captain by informing the Honorary Secretary of the Guernsey Union d’Éscrime of his/her intention to do so, before Sunday 1st January 2012.
A selection made by the Team Manager and Team Captain can be overturned by the Executive Group of the Guernsey Union d’Escrime only on the basis of factual inaccuracy, or failure to take into account relevant information in the written document required by Criterion 3 – above.
5. Any changes imposed by the Executive Group of the Guernsey Union d’Éscrime to the selections made by the Team Manager and the Team Captain must be clearly justified to the Team Manager and the Team Captain in writing by Sunday 8th January 2012, and subsequently posted up onto the G.U.E web site by Sunday 15th January 2012.
TEAM EVENTS
A. Fencers who have competed in relevant individual weapon events for the 2012 Commonwealth Junior Championships will be selected for participation in Team Events by the Team Manager and the Team Captain under the same procedure as those used for individual selection – above.
